According to CrunchBase, Marc Sparks, CEO of Timber Creek Capital,LP, founded the company in 2001. The entrepreneur was a C+ student who graduated from Westlake High School in Austin, Texas high school in 1975. Sparks admitted that he might have been an average high school student, but he was born with a very keen instinct for business. He’s a role model for any high school student with a C average.
Born on June 8, 1957, the baby in a family of five children, never wanted to go to college. After he graduated from high school, Marc Sparks got his start in the business world by helping his father out in his wholesale furniture store. Sparks took to the business very quickly.
He learned all about Freed Furniture store from the bottom by sweeping the floors and driving the delivery truck, and then working his way up to the more complex aspects of the wholesale furniture business. It didn’t take Mr. Sparks long to realize that his son had an insatiable appetite for the business world. Marc Sparks had some successful ventures and some unsuccessful ones. Having average grades doesn’t necessarily dictate how successful a person is after high school. Marc Sparks is known as a dynamic serial entrepreneur. He owns many other businesses in the telecommunications industry.
Some of these telecommunication businesses include Splash Media, Blue Jay Wireless, and Cardinal Telecom. Sparks owns real estate including a homeless shelter called Samaritan Inn that’s been around since the 1980s. Samaritan Inn, located in McKinney, Texas, houses 160 people every night and allows people to stay for five months.
The homeless shelter also offers services to help the homeless get their lives in order. After more than 30 years of success, Marc Sparks was inspired to write a book about his success.
He wrote a book called They Can’t Eat You (now available on Amazon and GoodRead). In his book, he shares how a high school student with a C+ average no college was able to make a successful person out of himself. Marc Sparks wanted to share his alternative to a college education in his “Fifty Sparks” plan.
He believes anyone can follow his 50 step plan up the path towards success. Sparks shares with his readers, not only his successes, but his failures. He tells people what he had learned from his failures. The serial entrepreneur believes that with great success comes plenty of responsibility. The book is available in hardback and e-book.
