Austin native Andrea McWilliams has carved out quite a reputation as someone who works fiercely for Texas issues. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, she was already working as a chief of staff for a state representative by the time she was twenty. Later she moved on to the public relations company, Public Strategies Inc. With her husband Dean, they started the company MCWILLIAMS, a firm of governmental affairs consults which is respected not just at the state level, but nationally. Mrs. McWilliams and her husband have different political philosophies; she’s a Republican and he’s a Democrat. This means that their clients are well-represented on both sides of the political spectrum. During the 81st Legislative Session, Andrea McWilliams was responsible for helping pass 100 million dollars in incentives to help make the state of Texas the first place in the world with the most up to date clean coal power plant that captures carbon.
Andrea McWilliams has received many awards that include the Woman of Distinction Award given by the Girl Scouts of Central Texas, the Profiles in Power Award given by the Austin Business Journal, and has been recognized as a member of the Glossy 8 List by the Austin-American Statesman. Mrs. McWilliams has also become a very well known philanthropist and volunteer in the community. As a past president of Inherit Austin, she worked to preserve the architectural and cultural history of the city. Mrs. McWilliams has also served as a board member for the organizations Austin Children in Crisis, and Rise Across Texas Challenge. Andrea is a breast cancer survivor and has represented the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and KillCancer. Andrea McWilliams has been featured in stories by FOX News, CNN, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal.
